Case Studies / Influencer Marketing
KFC South Africa launched Taste Rivalry, pitting two limited-edition burgers against each other: Team Prego vs Team Chimichurri. We ran the creator campaign behind it. From June to August 2026, more than 20 creators produced 43 pieces of content on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, delivering 1.2 million video views and ZAR 610K in earned media value. It is part of our influencer marketing work.
KFC South Africa launched Taste Rivalry, a limited-edition face-off between two burgers built on its signature crispy chicken fillet. #TeamPrego is Portuguese-inspired: bold, fiery and spicy, on a fluffy Prego roll. #TeamChimi is Argentinian-style: tangy, herby and creamy chimichurri on a sesame seed brioche bun.
Our brief was to turn a menu launch into a conversation: get South Africa to pick a side, argue about it, and head to KFC to settle it themselves.
Between 1 June and 25 August 2026, 43 pieces of content from more than 20 creators delivered 1.2 million video views, 48,900 engagements (47,400 likes and 646 comments) and an average video engagement rate of 4.23%. The content generated an estimated ZAR 610K in earned media value.
Instagram Reels did the heavy lifting, delivering roughly 73% of all views (about 843,000), driven by collab posts co-published with @kfcsouthafrica. TikTok added about 299,000 views and the most comments.
Cast for rivalry, not just reach. We built a roster of more than 20 South African creators across comedy, gaming, lifestyle and food, including duos and twins who could naturally play the two teams against each other on camera.
Collab posts with @kfcsouthafrica. Hero Reels were co-published as Instagram collabs with KFC South Africa, putting creator content in front of both audiences at once. These posts produced the campaign’s biggest numbers.
Native formats on every platform. Each creator adapted the idea to their own channel: Instagram Reels and Stories, TikTok and YouTube Shorts, plus gaming and live-stream tie-ins under #StreamTheRivalry and #GameDayBucket. Every post used #TasteRivalry and #PickYourSide.
Comedians Primo Baloyi (@primo9teen) and Vafa Naraghi (@vafafrica) took opposite sides of the rivalry in two collab Reels with KFC South Africa, with Primo also posting cut-downs to TikTok. Together, their content drove about a third of all campaign views.

Rivalry is a format, not just a theme. Pairing creators on opposite teams gave every video a built-in hook and a reason to comment.
Collab posts multiply reach. Reels co-published with @kfcsouthafrica drove the vast majority of the campaign’s 1.2 million views.
Comedy carries. Primo and Vafa’s back-and-forth earned nearly half of all campaign engagement.
Smaller creators bring depth. Katlego Amari’s collab Reel hit a 9% engagement rate, more than seven times the campaign’s 1.21% average.
